He perceived how the artists of \nBali utilized the playful colors of the tropics and the idyllic \ncommunal life of an island. Aside from portraying dancers, \nrituals, and landscapes, Navarro was also stimulated to \npaint abstract works exploding with naturally occurring \ncolors is essential in Balinese culture. One of the distinct \nand powerful characteristics of Navarro’s paintings is the \nuse of bright, dynamic hues. <br /><br />\nWhen Navarro first laid eyes on Bali, he described the way \nthe colors boggled his eyes, “I am used to seeing colors \nin a well-ordered way. In Bali, color attains order in a \ndisordered way; as if thrown haphazardly but with order \nwhen seen from a distance — mysterious-a predominance \nof primary colors, no mixtures…\" His statement from Cid \nReyes’s book on Navarro is reminiscent of his painting \nThe Other Side of Bali, filled with bright tints of blues, red, \nand yellows.
