The minimalist composition of this work \nhelped to highlight the shifts in gradient tones, resulting \nin a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

\nAmid the flourishing of non-objective art in the 1970s, \nMaramag was in pursuit of a unique artistic signature, \nexperimenting with various methods until he found it \nthrough the use of a spray gun. This utilitarian tool, \ncommonly associated with industrial purposes, became \nhis primary medium to manipulate color gradients and \ncreate a luminous effect.

\nThe art of Maramag was shaped when pure abstraction \nwas gaining prominence within the local art scene. He \nwas part of the experimental generation of artists that \nveered away from the neo-realist and expressionist \nworks. Like Fernando Zobel de Ayala, who explored \nin his art the complexities of depth using subtle tonal \nshifts, Maramag probed similar problems on his \ncanvases that are usually square-shaped with evenly \nlaid out colors.

\nMaramag was part of the first set of Thirteen Artist \nAwardees in 1970. The Thirteen Artist Awards was \ncreated by the Cultural Center of the Philippines under \nthe directorship of Roberto Chabet.
