In this piece aptly \ntitled Coalesce, Orlina seamlessly bonds two separate \npieces of carved glass into one visual display of \nsculptural magnificence. The sculptures are supported \nby a wooden base that serves as both their foundation \nand a “bridge” that “connects” them. The point of \nconfluence where the two sculptures meet engenders \na compelling optical illusion, resulting in a piece that \nelicits further artistic survey and brings out the creative \nexploration of thoughts in every viewer. <br /><br />\nArmed with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, which \nhe obtained from the University of Santo Tomas in 1965, \nOrlina’s ingenuity weds integrity of form and balance. \nWhen viewed at a certain angle and distance, especially \nat the point of confluence, the sculptures seemingly \nform a mountain with sharp edges and a steepness \nso sheer that one can imagine an experienced hiker \nclimbing with the aid of ropes and other mechanical \ndevices. The work then becomes a microcosm of a \nbreathtaking vista.
