Romulo \nGalicano developed an extraordinary intimacy with the outdoors and \nstrove for a spiritual understanding based on unspoken emotion.\nBorn in 1945 to a family of artists from Carcar, Cebu, Galicano studied \nintensively under his uncle, the Cebuano maestro Martino Abellana.\nGalicano grew up as the personal student of his uncle, the Cebuano \nmaster Martino Abellana. At age 13, he became part of his uncle’s \nhousehold. The close relationship of maestro and apprentice made \nGalicano the direct and immediate heir to Abellana’s artistic heritage. \nThe mastery of color and tone, composition, techniques and materials \ncame from lessons he learned from his early youth.\nHe took up fine arts at the University of the East where he was under \nthe tutelage of Florencio Concepcion, who taught him abstract designs. \nFrom 1969 to 1975, he painted with the Dimasalang group, named \nafter the street in Sampaloc, Manila where he once lived in the late 60s \nand through the 70s. Many impressionist artists have been identified \nwith the Dimasalang group, with writer Emilio Aguilar Cruz providing \nguidance and inspiration.\nThe group promoted impressionism and representational art when \nmodern art was at its peak — a quiet revolution wherein the dominance \nof modern art was softly challenged by re-emergence of the traditional \nrepresentational art. The group was responsible for bridging the gap \nbetween the two movements in harmony. \n“The Lagoon - Vancouver”, painted in 1992, while still strongly reflecting \nGalicano’s Dimasalang roots, has its very French Impressionistic use of \ncolors and romantic theme","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":1300000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":1300000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":1518400,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":31003,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/40/65/lot/135.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[900000,1000000,1100000,1200000,1300000,1400000,1500000,1600000,1700000,1800000,1900000,2000000,2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":134,"next":136,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
