Romance and \nlove for the bucolic are embodied in this canvas that can aptly be \ndescribed as painted poetry.\nThis painting figures in a Philippine setting and has a rich and \nexpansive, yet subtle detail of environment and costume. The \nchoice of color palette fairly pulsed with the spectrum by which \nAmorsolo sought to capture that shimmering world of light. As \ntwilight ushers in the evening, a spirited fisherman and his family \ncalls it a day’s work in the sea. He employs a dramatically tinted sky \nwith which to silhouette the rustically costumed figures. The dense \ncloud formations could have dwarfed the main figures if not for the \nbalance of scale that Amorsolo gives the entire scene.\nLike many masters, Amorsolo found a formula which, once \nestablished, he never fundamentally changed, and its variations \nare so clever. The sloping salakot of the husband finds another \nmanifestation as a curved salakot in some other magnificent \nversion. The fishing boat is a mainstay in both versions\nThere is a monumental grandeur about the simple couple which \nimprints itself on the viewer’s mind just as forcefully as the epic and \nheroic canvases of traditional academic painting; yet the figures are in no \nway glorified but the whole scene is imbued with a golden sunset light. \nThis was the kind of scene that appealed to Amorsolo’s romantic side \nand he made the most of it in this picture. Since, the sea had \na prominent place in Amorsolo’s, it is not surprising that he painted \nit several times.\nAmorsolo’s technique and skill of capturing the drama and changing \nlight are evident in the famed artist’s response to a sunset over the \nseashore. The Classical Master seems to pronounce that seashore \npainting is air painting, revealing an importance that he placed on the \nsubtleties of colored light and atmosphere. Even the sky also has \na splendour that enhances the whole picture. \nThe handling of the paint is lovely and the atmosphere full of the feeling \nthat Amorsolo considered so important in the rendering of seascapes. \nHe looked on nature with a calm and tranquil mind, seeing in its works \na vast and serene progress rather than a series of dramatic events.\nHe was the first Filipino painter to finally step out of the studio to look at \nthe outdoors under a real sunset, and it was vibrantly different; even the \nshadows cast by people are so much richer. His works, his dreams of a \nradiant and serene countryscapes governed by tenderness and kindness. \nThe sentiment of nature was an essential ingredient in Amorsolo’s work \nand the one which sets him from painters of nature before him and the \nartists who followed him","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":5000000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":5000000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":5840000,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":30940,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/40/65/lot/71.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":70,"next":72,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
