Aguilar Cruz: “Malang’s paintings are as unlike \nthose of the traditional school represented by Amorsolo as a \nstraight line is different from a scroll. Yet they bear the stamp \nof that quality that Filipino art lovers mean when they say \n‘Filipino’.”\nDuring the 1970s Malang painted lyrical semi abstracts that express \nhis almost religious joy of living.\nAbstraction sometimes allows for a bit of somber drama \nthat departs from Malang’s lighthearted, angst-free style, and \nnowhere is this departure more obvious than in his landscapes. \nHere, conventions of realism seem easier to break, probably due \nto the all encompassing perspective, the bird’s-eye view that can \nconcede details, as well as the volatility of the subject matter — \nshifting storm clouds blown by the wind, sunsets and sunrises, \nmoonscapes that vary with the season. One is a painting with \na definite apocalyptic flavor, black background and a very detailed \nforeground. It is a top view of a city with storm clouds that \nresemble an atomic bomb of explosion in the distant sky. It is a \nbroody background of church spires, houses and roads some of \nwhich are no more than thick square brushstrokes that make the \nmost of the richness of the medium.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":8000000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":8000000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":9344000,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":30948,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/40/65/lot/78.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":77,"next":79,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
