He studied painting at the University of the Philippines (1982),  later joining various protest art movements. His art documented  the lives of ordinary people living precariously in a society filled  with hypocrisy, contradiction and futility. The artist was awarded  the Thirteen Artists Award by the Cultural Center of the Philippines  in 1994. His practice has had him represent the Philippines in  various international conferences, workshops and exhibitions  in Japan, Denmark, Australia and the USA.
