Ocampo made doodles or connecting the dots. As with so many of his works, it appears abstract, but his title encourages viewers to reflect on the everyday friendly rituals of rural folk — they look like two people about to partake hard drinks in what looks like a small store — during the past mid-century. The artist was already almost totally breaking away from figurative imagery as early as 1951.\nIt should be noted that in the earliest part of his career, Ocampo went through a period of proletarian art, featuring stark social contrasts in the urban post-war setting. He was subsequently going to move away from social themes and sought to develop a Filipino abstract idiom famously his own.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"<p><strong>Hernando R.
