They also invite a more lasting acquaintance with the artist than other mediums allow.\nHere, interest in the “unfinished” qualities of a good sketch complete with impromptu vitality is what the informal side of Luna shares with the Impressionists, but nothing else. The informality is balanced by the decisiveness of line and casual assurance of the resulting anonymous portraits. Luna’s mastery of using charcoal on paper show the spontaneity and spur of the moment quality of oil sketches.\nIn its size, erudite detailing and happily unapologetic academism, Luna’s portraiture of everyday people are as much a chronicle of the European zeitgeist as it is a work of art.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Juan Luna (1875-1899)
a.)
