He has the Renaissance man’s wide ranging  interests:  classical music and contemporary fiction, poetry and myth and much more.   Besides being a painter, he is also a superb etcher and draftsman.\nBy the mid-50s he had discarded subject matter to experiment with Abstract expressionism (e.g. Hans Hoffmann, Franz Kline, and Willem de Kooning) and his earlier retention  of exuberant colors during the mid-century gave way to a more earthier spectrum.\nIn spite of his intellectual approach, Zobel avoided giving further meaning to his paintings beyond their titles, unlike many abstractionists who would give complex descriptions of their works.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"<p><strong>Fernando Zobel</strong> (1924-1984)<br /><em>a.)
