Whether in abstraction or figuration, Ang Kiukok produced works that were so powerful in feeling and so imaginative in design that they evoke not just visual suggestions, but meticulously structured details. In this particular work, the highly charged colors generate an immediate emotional response. Painted in vibrant colors, the agitated shapes zigzag in all directions, making complex, usually cubistic, shapes. Patterns start becoming more apparent, suggesting structures similar to the walls within buildings. The painting is, in a way, disorienting with its all-over design and the absence of perspective, testing the imagination with its intersecting planes and forms that seem to jut out of the picture plane. The painting makes the viewer ask how the details actually are in relation to one another. Is that a moon in the upper left? Are those the roofs of houses at right? The understanding of the forms is dynamic as certain aspects of the work could seem large and distant, or small and near. While the work may have architectural qualities, the planes of color remain true to the ethos of abstraction, fashioning its own complex reality.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Ang Kiukok (1931-2005)
Landscape
signed and dated 1975 (lower right)
oil on canvas
40” x 70” (102 cm x 178 cm)
","alias":null,"hp":11000000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":11000000,"userBid":null,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":12848000,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":37363,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/55/83/lot/92.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":91,"next":93,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
