Luz's journey in the art world began with painting, but he eventually turned to sculpture in the 1960s. His early sculptures were made from wood and metal and were often inspired by the human form. However, he soon began experimenting with other materials, such as marble and bronze, and began to focus more on abstract forms. Luz’s sculptural practice was born out of the opening up of the country to not only new and novel concepts and ideas, but also the international and almost utilitarian predisposition of Modernity. Thus, Luz’s minimalist works often sought to capture the brevity of shapes and forms as a way of understanding the essence behind visual languages.
