Interpretations of the subject have ranged from the initial “taong grasa” with plastic clothing, all the way to the more modern figures influenced by inspiration, coming from more recent travels of the Artist. This particular painting is right in the midst of this evolution. The facial expression is of an older woman with deep-set eyes, her right hand over her clothing, which still depicts the Artist’s signature dance of the draperies.\nDuring an interview, Bencab said that commenting on Society is not the object of his art. With this in mind, the current owner cannot help but interpret the message of this Sabel as a burning emotion, deep within her — something that has seemingly been kept untold. To the current owner, he can even volunteer that an appropriate title for this painting could be “A SECRET UNTOLD”. \nHe has enjoyed wondering at what this secret could be for the last 12 years that he has kept this piece, but now it is time to turn over this painting to a new owner, who will enjoy imagining what this untold secret really is.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Benedicto Cabrera (b.1942)
Sabel
signed and dated 2004 (lower right)
acrylic on canvas
24” x 18” (61 cm x 46 cm)
","alias":"bencab","hp":5200000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":5200000,"userBid":null,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":6073600,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":38433,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/61/89/lot/35.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":34,"next":36,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
