In truth, he was a master of all media, moving seamlessly from oil, watercolor, and sculpture with ease and versatility.  His paintbrush (and chisel) created symphonies of movement and color as if he was conducting a mighty orchestra. “Morning Mist Over Ubud, Bali” is just one such  example, containing Navarro’s signature strokes and  intense colors that, in a way, summed up the playfulness and jovial character that made him a favorite friend among his artistic contemporaries –- in a career that spanned half a century. Navarro was, in fact, one of two Filipino artists to successfully carve out a career not only in Manila but also in art-hungry  Indonesia, where his particular style struck a chord with international collectors who would travel to the venerable Bamboo  Gallery in Bali.  (The Bamboo, then as now, has the reputation of representing not only Indonesian artists but established painters throughout the region.) J. E.
