Amorsolo’s art embodies sweetness and light, even his depiction of age weathered common folk.  The life he chose to portray on canvas invariably brims with good cheer, serenity, casual naïve grace.  He has remained true to this visual outlook, even as the decades passed before and after the war.  In the words of Alfredo Roces in 1974: “The actual rural life pattern itself changed.  The countryside changed, but Amorsolo painted his peasants as timeless figures clothed in the same manner, working at their same chores.
