Manansala developed his own style of transparent cubism, an indigenization of the original Paris style. Also of note is Manansala’s unique use of the chessboard grids on the left side of the study. It has been written that Manansala deliberately painted like the Dutch masters, Jan Vermeer, and Pieter de Hooch, in order to learn ‘geometry’ in art.
