His paintings feature the local common folk, as seen in this oil painting he made in 1986 titled Vendors. A mysterious aura is evoked in the faceless figures in this abstract work, inviting its viewers to search for hidden meanings.

His style is a mix of impressionism and cubism, influenced by the modernists Vicente Manansala and Galo Ocampo. As he pursued his Fine Arts studies at the University of Santo Tomas, he was mentored by eminent artists such as Diosdado Lorenzo, Leon Pacunayen, and Roberto Chabet. Also, it was around this time when he diverted his themes toward Filipino culture. The article “Oscar Salita: A Thomasian Artist Who Gave A Distinct Character To Faceless Paintings” said that Salita was included in the Next Generation Moderns of UST.
