He was skilled in improvisations and experiments, and his avant-garde approach showed how much he embraced the expressive opportunities of the graphic arts. Apart from his renowned Diaphanous and Permutation series, Olazo also produced ample works in various series – as seen in the featured lots.<br /><br /> The Untitled Series constituted Olazo’s experimental stage as it showcased the artist’s creative genius at its most pure and fundamental state. He exhibited exquisite restraint with his deft hand and keen eye, more so with his play on light and motion. Owing to the bold and broad swathes of assorted colors, the abundance of drama and gravity in this series is apparent. The shapes and planes seem predestined to be cohesive in the construction of spatial complexity, creating a delicate as well as elegant effect.<br /><br /> On the other hand, the Cast Paper series is also one of the unique creations of Olazo. The pieces are dated 1986. In July of that year, Olazo held a one-man show titled Paintings, Monotypes and Cast Paper at the Luz Gallery, with 43 pieces exhibited: eight Untitled series, 11 serigraph monotypes, and 24 handmade cast paper. Then in October, the first fatherand- son show titled Olazo and Olazo was held at the De La Salle University, Manila, where nine handmade cast papers were among the pieces exhibited.
