He narrates the terrible cholera epidemic in Manila in 1820, describes the city of Manila (he estimates 50,000 inhabitants, of which only 5,000 were Spaniards or Creoles), recounts the process of buying land and building his house, his relationship with the natives -of whom he generally speaks in positive terms-, the preparation of the land to begin farming -a task in which he personally collaborated, etc. Everything related to his expedition to the Cordillera is especially interesting. He introduces numerous anecdotes and dialogues, and at the end of the book, he has thanks for the Spaniards and the Filipinos, because he felt loved by them.
