His imagery is evocative of his bond to the folk and to his native soil, rendered in various genres and mediums. However, in the vast oeuvre of Lorenzo, still lifes in watercolor constituted a significant portion.

Tropical fruits of the season were the usual subjects in his still life pieces. As in his other works, he did not paint from memory but with his subjects in front of him. His use of colors could bring out the different hues, tones, and textures of a fruit.

His still lifes were lent well in watercolor due to its transparency and lightness. He used the medium to enhance tonal quality and texture, at the same time, applied precise contours with a fine brush complemented by wash effects. With watercolor, the subjects also done in oil were seen from a new perspective, filled with clarity and grace.

The lot at hand is a watercolor painting dated the 31st of January 1977, entitled Still Life with Vegetables. Also, in the same year, Lorenzo, who had only recently returned from Italy, held a one-man exhibit in March at Gallery One in Greenhills, San Juan.
