The child of Juan Novicio Luna and Paz Pardo de Tavera, Andres was taught art lessons in Europe, the Philippines, and Japan before he served as the architect of the City of Manila from 1920 to 1924.

This untitled landscape proves the younger Luna’s architectural prowess. A quaint depiction of the rolling fields with a distant town, Andres’s knowledge of perspective is on full display. The piece shines with his academic learnings, his classic background turning the work into a magnificent piece reminiscent of the architect’s future works in Manila.

In the years that followed, Andres would become a highly sought-after architect, a fact driven by his unique melding of Filipino-French architecture. A significant number of buildings along Dewey Boulevard (now known as Roxas Boulevard) were designed by Andres. In 1938, he became a member of the Manila Beautiful Committee, a group of people in charge of the beautification of the city.
