His thick impasto style is evident in his untitled 1959 piece, where he depicts a dreary city square. The plaza is deserted, and the greenish-brown hue Custodio imposes on the scene portrays just how devoid of life this place is. Through these works, Custodia takes the classical composition he has been taught and turns it into his head.

Throughout his life, Custodia served not just as an artist but as a mentor, leading the Friday Group of Artists in 1956 as well as the Talahib Art Group. Many artists had honed their skills under Custodio’s tutelage.
