In particular, his seascapes portray an interesting perspective on the usual landscape, its charm speaking of a bucolic past overflowing with nostalgia.

With these two seascapes, Laxa’s hometown, the river town of Guagua, is an evident well of inspiration. He was the son of a fisherman and even worked as one in his youth; as such, his love for the sea and her life-sustaining capabilities translates onto his canvases. These pieces depict a series of boats docked on the shore, a common sight for the sea-bound Laxa.

Laxa’s seascapes feature more than just the glistening seas – more than anything, it is nostalgic, its atmosphere a forgotten dream that many are only starting to remember. His talent at depicting not just the scene but the memories that come with it cements Laxa as an eminent classical painter.
