Before he pursued architecture, he studied under eminent artists like Lorenzo Guerrero, Toribio Antillon, and Fabian de la Rosa where he got the basics of painting down.

This landscape hails from the collection of the illustrious Don. J. Antonio Araneta and like its origin, it bespoke of Arellano’s great talent. Through short, impressionistic brush strokes, Arellano depicts a windy and cloudy patch of the forest. The leaves shake as the breeze passes through it and it is a quiet place in the midst of a rapidly urbanizing country.

As an architect, Arellano had a hand in installing some of the most famous buildings in the country; however, as a painter, Arellano’s hand transforms a plain canvas into a pocket of the past, bottling in it the nostalgia that comes as one experiences a series of changes and decays.
