These “portraitlike renditions of women with an uncanny sense of movement” as they have been described became the forefront of Alegre’s career – a worthy position for these magnificent pieces, as they imbibe a mysterious yet romantic view of the dalaga.

With his 2020 Hermosa, Alegre intertwined womanhood with nature as he explored the enigmatic allure of Mother Nature. Here, he portrays his iconic woman peering from behind dense foliage. Her stare is heavy and knowing as she pins it directly on the viewer. Alegre’s sharply dramatic brushstrokes and color play around his romantic notion of the woman, balancing her precariousness and her otherworldly wisdom, a feat that the artist masterfully accomplishes.
