Like many conservatives, he tends to veer toward the representational but his virtuosity has led him towards neo-expressionism and abstractionism. This piece, Abstract in Orange, is among them.

Abstract in Orange utilizes colors and curves to mimic what shapes could have accomplished to allude to movement. His curvilinear shapes and forms echo that of his figurative works but his monochromatic piece leaves much more up for interpretation.

Often painting folk genre pieces and classic Filipino themes, San Miguel’s Abstract in Orange shows another side of the eminent artist. His momentary deviation from his usual subjects shows his versatility and his ever-persistent desire for growth and change as befits one of the country’s most adaptable artists.
