His contemporaries and emerging artists alike followed this style, filling their canvases with realistic images of the idyllic countryside. Drawing from the masters of classical realism, Cesar Buenaventura, in contrast to the boisterous crowd of his hometown of Tondo, accurately captures the serene barrio life in his works.

This 1965 oil painting features a traditional bahay-kubo (nipa hut) resting by the lakeside, surrounded by lush greenery. In the background is a breathtaking view of a sunset, radiant streaks of yellows and oranges Cesar Buenaventura Reminiscining the Romantic Countryside against clear skies, and reflected through the calm waters. Buenaventura’s sun also spreads its light and warmth to the entirety of his landscape and across his audiences.

Buenaventura’s artistry is a combination of his intrinsic talent, the collective lessons and influences he gathered throughout the years, and the continued practice of his craft, successfully painting his name in the art scene with his own style. His exceptional colorwork and delicate brush strokes deliberately capture nature’s timeless beauty, offering the viewers a sense of tranquility and peace.
