Exploring the same themes for over four decades, the tens of thousands of sketches, paintings, and studies are regarded as a masterful study of a subject sustained over an extended period, branching out as Olaza explored the themes in abstraction, figuration, and a unique hybrid form.

These two Diaphanous pieces, both created in 2010, were among the works created near the end of his career, and thus, they perfectly portray the best of what the Diaphanous series can offer. Normally translucent and overlapping, these latter Diaphanous are more opaque and bright. His sensitivity for shapes had sharpened, as evidenced by the masterful way in which utilized shapes, colors, and form.

It is inevitable that an artist reaches the end of the inspiration their muse bestowed upon them. But yet, against all odds, Olazo’s Diaphanous manages to explore the enormous breadth and intensity this vision provides. With these pieces belonging to the latter part of his career, these Diaphanous pieces accumulate within them the obstinancy with which Olazo pursued this muse, an artistic inspiration that served the artist up until the end.
