From his early works and his depiction of jeepneys and Filipino elements, Wilwayco eventually turned to nature, a transition that was well-received by the public and critics alike.

“People don’t realize that even with nature when you zoom into something like a leaf, it looks so abstract. No one can capture, or be close to the color combinations of nature,” he says on his website.

Indeed, his vibrant color schemes and dynamic brush strokes bring to life the vines and trees he so loves. These works have a sense of abstraction, a fluidity that allows its viewers to see the sweep of the vines and the trees he depicts and still have space for personal interpretation, a strength in the works of Wilwayco.
