Aside from being \ndramatic metaphors of ‘the human condition,’ they are \nalso visual correlatives of inner moods and psychological \nweathers.” Known for confronting injustice and raising \nawareness of the circumstances of the working class, \nLegaspi was instrumental in the acceptance of modern art \nby redefining cubism using Philippine context. His distinctive \ngeometric fragmentation disrupted the cubist idiom by \naltering angularity and merging forms through rhythmical \ndelineation. Both part of the influential Thirteen Moderns \nand Neo-Realists, he localized Western visual art theory, \nspearheading modern artful conception and approach for \nsubsequent generations of Filipino artists.<br /><br />\nDespite his deuteranopia — red-green colour-blindness (red \nappearing as brown or pink, and green as beige) — he was \na master colorist stating, “Colors don’t come from my eyes, \nthey come from my imagination.” He was able to overcome \nthis affliction by coordinating his palette with a color wheel, \ndetermining the hues based on the wheel’s position. As a \nresult, his color palettes acquired a rich tint due to these \ncontrasting tonalities. His undulant geometrical utilizations \nof structure and bisecting of bodies into greater facets which \nimbricate and slice through space in clear arched-cadences \nachieves an abundantly composed composition of hues and \ntones. He fully releases the articulate aptitude of color which \ncreates a lush colorful atmosphere with a multitude of forms. \nCreating plangency in space, these layers of transparent \nmovements constitute a polychromatic effect while his \nlambency enhances hues or de-materializes them into airy \ntranslucence. Curator Ditas Samson observed that, “The \nhuman torso was his vessel for visual expression... <br /><br />\nWhen he was a child, his lungs were filled with water, \nand so doctors had to periodically drain them and inject \nantiseptic. During this time, he would feel waters sloshing \ninside him. This is why the torsos in his paintings are fluid.” \nIn this work, it is unique that Legaspi's enthralment is \nevident for figures both human and equine. His organic \n“biota” imagery is especially apparent, conjoining man \nand beast as one in a visceral weft. The two figures and \nthree horses forms undulate to overlap to their own shared \ncadence of tonal synchronicity, fully expressing the rich \ntexture of potential color.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":6000000,"bp":0.2016,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":6000000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":7209600,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":44398,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/92/121/lot/32.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":31,"next":33,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
