In these early pieces, there is a hint of hybridity, blending elements of Filipino rural life with otherworldly in a way that seemingly muses probable co-existence between the two.

Tapaya's mastery lies in his ability to infuse his paintings with rich, earthy colors and intricate patterning, bringing his subjects to life with stimulating details. His keen observation of everyday life is evident in the gimlet-eyed features of his characters and the wry humor that pervades his work. At the heart of Tapaya's work is his mastery of color. He understands the power of color to evoke emotion, set the scene, and breathe life into his characters. It is this attention to detail and his ability to create vivid, immersive worlds that make Tapaya's art singular and unique.
