The work depicts an unnamed bishop in his full regalia. At his back is a religious coat of arms with a banner bearing the inscription \"Mihi vivere Christus est,\" a Latin epitaph that means \"For me to live is Christ.\" It is a shortened version of the passage from St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians (1:21), \"Mihi enim vivere Christus est et mori lucrum,\" which translates to \"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.\"<br /><br /> Zalameda imbues the sitter with a dignified bearing fitting for such a prominent position within the Catholic Church hierarchy. El Obispo is a veritable reminder of Zalameda at his absolute creative prime.
