Most notable in his works is the theme of corporeal desires intertwined with philosophical (often existential) underpinnings. Critic and poet Vicente Ignacio de Veyra coined the term “Blue Funk Erotica” to describe Antonio’s distinct depiction and implication of eroticism in his works. Antonio uses the concept of eroticism not in an explicit manner but instead centers it on concepts of desolation, dejection, and melancholia, effectively adding a more profound layer of understanding of human inclinations for coitus. Through this, Antonio fosters the idea that sexual desire is not merely the cravings of the flesh; it also centers on the satisfaction and fulfillment of one’s thirst for intimacy, affection, and emotional attachment. In the process, Antonio explores and augments layers of creative discourses to the often-taboo concepts of human sexuality and sexual desires.
