While he renders the female physique in all its bare sensuality and delicate femininity, Bencab’s depiction of the male body presents virility, as seen in this particular piece. Here, the man possesses dashing confidence, evidenced by his sitting position, which exhibits his manhood and signifies an assertion of his dominance. Although Bencab’s renderings of the nude fall within the traditional aspects and qualities of the obsolete and erroneous gender binary, these works nonetheless showcase his technical mastery of the human anatomy and keen eye for even the smallest of details.
